Kirsty and Ken Sivyer - NightOwl Mackay Franchisees

Ken and Kirsty Sivyer are balancing life as the parents of two children and growing their business, while picking up a few accolades along their journey to success.

“It took some time to reach our business goal of owning our own store – but we achieved it in February 2007,” they said.

“In our first year with NightOwl we were recognised as ‘Best Debut by a New Franchisee’ in 2007 and also won the ‘Frost Bite Champion’ Award in 2007 and 2008.

“This is such a great adventure. We are able to put our life skills into a challenging career while being our own boss and spending quality time with our family.

“The best thing about taking small steps to reach your dreams is that when the rewards come – for instance when we went to America last year for our honeymoon – it makes you appreciate the effort you put in to get there.

“We are happy with what we have achieved so far and that our business hasn’t blossomed at the expense of our family or vice versa – it’s nice to be able to manage both responsibilities and to be able to enjoy them as well.”

Ken and Kirsty worked in various retail establishments, saving money to buy a franchise, while juggling the demands of being parents to Samantha and Mitchell.

Over the past 14 years of being with NightOwl, we have managed to grow our business to 12 stores across Brisbane and the Gold Coast and are on the lookout for more in the future.  Our expansion plans are about providing a high quality service to our customers as well as keeping local people in jobs.

We believe in the NightOwl convenience store concept so much so, we have encouraged family and friends to join us and invest.  My son-in-law Athol White joined the business in 2004 and a lot of our success is attributed to our combined efforts.

The NightOwl system not only makes it possible for business people from a variety of different industries with varying experience and knowledge the opportunity to run profitable stores, they also provide assistance and support when establishing multiple store networks like ours.

We appreciate that NightOwl values our opinions and adopts a collaborative approach to refining and improving its systems and procedures.  On a number of occasions my wife and I have been invited to assist in this process which we believe has resulted in more efficient and profitable operations. 

My family and I have a very sound financial future with NightOwl and it is a future we look forward to with anticipation.

Colleen O’Pray – NightOwl Woolloongabba Franchisee

Having recently joined the NightOwl family through taking over the NightOwl Woolloongabba store, I have been impressed by the total support offered by the NightOwl Support Centre in all areas of the business.

Taking the leap from working within the corporate environment to running my own business has been an amazing experience. Owning my own business provides me with the flexibility to balance all areas of my home life with a rewarding and challenging career.

NightOwl has been there every step of the way, providing invaluable advice and expertise to ensure my store is managed to its maximum capacity.
